Dacia's global sales fell by 9.7% in the first nine months of 2026, as the Romanian car brand faced increasing competition from Chinese manufacturers, accelerating demand for electric vehicles and a transition in its model range, Actmedia reports. For the marque that turned affordability into a business model, the pressure now comes from both directions at once: Chinese brands are attacking the entry segment on price, while electrification redraws the technology map underneath it.
The squeeze is visible on home ground as well. Turnover in Romania's motor vehicle and motorcycle trade declined in the first eight months of 2026, Actmedia reports, and more than 250 stores have signed up for the country's Black Friday 2026 campaign — a clear signal that the retail side of the market is counting on aggressive promotions to revive volumes before the year closes.
Demand, however, has not disappeared; it is changing shape. Tesla registrations jumped 69% in October across seven European markets, giving the brand a 3.2% share of the overall market and 26% of a battery-electric segment that now accounts for 12.3% of sales. Romania bucks the usual pattern: unlike in most markets, the Model 3 led there with 68% of Tesla's registrations — evidence that electrified demand is reaching even the region's most price-conscious buyers.
