BorgWarner said on October 29, 2026 that it had been awarded a contract to supply its next‑generation high‑voltage traction inverter for future battery‑electric vehicle (BEV) programmes by a major global automaker. The company said the award extends an existing inverter relationship with the unnamed customer and underlines its role in advanced power‑electronics for electrification.

The award and the technology

In its Oct. 29 press release BorgWarner described the product as a “next‑generation high‑voltage traction inverter” that “incorporates BorgWarner's latest power module technology and a simplified design architecture.” The company said its compact layout and manufacturing innovations are intended to optimise efficiency, cost competitiveness and packaging flexibility for EV drivetrains.

The release also summarised the inverter’s role in the vehicle: it converts the battery’s direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC) to drive the electric motor — making the inverter a critical component for vehicle efficiency and energy management.

BorgWarner framed the announcement as part of a broader set of awards disclosed with its third‑quarter results on the same date; the company listed multiple programme wins across e‑motors, turbochargers and control modules in its Oct. 29 earnings material.

What this means for the market

For suppliers and OEM purchasing teams in Central and Eastern Europe the win matters for two reasons. First, it signals continued demand from major vehicle makers for established, industrialised inverter suppliers as automakers roll out new BEV architectures — an outcome BorgWarner says reflects customer confidence in its power‑electronics expertise. As Isabelle McKenzie, BorgWarner’s Vice‑President and President of PowerDrive Systems, put it: "This award reflects the confidence customers place in BorgWarner's power electronics expertise."
