Killer whales harm boat in newest orca incident off Spain coast | Setting Information


Dozens of incidents involving teams of orcas and boats have been reported off the Spanish and Portuguese coasts up to now this 12 months.

The rescue service deployed a rapid-response vessel and a helicopter carrying a bilge pump to help the 20-metre (66 toes) vessel, which was crusing beneath the UK’s flag, the spokesman stated.

The Mustique was towed to the port of Barbate, within the Spanish province of Cadiz, for repairs.

The incident follows not less than 20 interactions this month alone within the Strait of Gibraltar between small vessels and the extremely social apex predators. In 2022, there have been 207 reported interactions, GTOA knowledge confirmed.
